PictureLindsey Porter (she/her) @yoganuu Based in Scotland, UK
Based in Scotland, UK I am Yoga-Nu-U and I'm passionate about sharing the benefits yoga can bring to all minds and all bodies. This has and continues to be a journey of discovery. Helping make yoga accessible and keeping it real.

I worked as a Project Manager for 20 years in Financial services. I came to yoga in my 20s to find a better balance and relieve the pressures of work. In 2006, I took an opportunity between jobs to spend time in Rishikesh, India to deepen my understanding of yoga and certified as an RYS Akhanda Hatha Yoga Teacher, with Yogi Vishvketu of Akhanda Yoga. It was here 'Asha Jyoti', my yogic name was given to me which translates to ‘Light of Hope.’  In 2018 I became a Tutor for the Yoga Scotland Foundation Course, helping guide others on their yoga journeys. I have accomplished 500 hour training recognition with Yoga Scotland along with a range of other trainings, enjoying life-long learning.

Reiki also found me whilst living and travelling in South America in my 20s.  I completed my Reiki I initiation in La Paz, Bolivia in 2000, and completed my Reiki Master in Wales 2007. I've been loving and learning NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) coaching and communicating techniques since 2009 (became an INLPTA NLP Practitioner in 2015). I'm a qualified Holistic Therapist too and I love to weaver all these things into yoga practices and sessions in numerous ways.

It was in 2015 I took the bold step to leave Financial Services and dedicate my energy to running a yoga and wellbeing services business. This has quickly grown into sharing classes for a range of people including, adults, kids, people in Care Homes, workshops covering a range of wellbeing subjects as well as longer wellbeing retreats - both home and abroad. Community is everything and I actively support SAMH charity, am an RVS Volunteer, provide yoga for special needs at Camphill Blair Drummond, Stirling and currently sit on the Board as a Trustee of the LEAP charity as an ally.

I'm a published author (Whirlpools, yoga and the balance of life 2018 and Forgiveness is the Hardest thing 2022) writer of wellbeing related articles in various Yoga magazine and wider press such as the Huffington Post. I co-founded the award nominated international podcast series Voices of Yoga (no longer active).

In October 2018 I lead a Scottish Parliamentary Reception on Yoga: Mental Health & Wellbeing. Sharing the benefits all forms of yoga can bring to all minds and bodies. Sponsored by Angus MacDonald MSP and with a speech by the Minister for Mental Health, Clare Haughey MSP along with SAMH it was an inspiring evening with a continuing positive ripple effect.

How I'd describe my style of Yoga teaching?
Whilst my teaching training follows the Akhanda Hatha style of yoga, I like to incorporate element and fuse movement suggestions from many other styles. Typically in one of my yoga classes, I will guide you though a combination of postures (asanas) breathing exercises (pranayama) and relaxation/internal focus techniques as well as incorporating aspects of NLP into the classes. Yoga is a non-competitive activity which exercises the mind, body and improves breathing. It promotes balance, core stability, strength and flexibility, alongside encouraging us to make space to absorb the benefits of our practice. All this can help to re-energise and rejuvenate ourselves. My teaching is suitable for the complete beginner up to intermediate level. My personal yoga journey has had its ups and downs and continues to help me explore the boundaries of my ego, in particular refinding my physical practice after weight gain, two c-sections in my late 30s.

I'd sum up my yoga style of teaching as:

fluid, fun and aimed towards improving your movement and ability to make space to journey inwards towards peace.
But don't take it from me, come and find out for yourself or read what others think/have fedback
